“Releasing paint’s unruly components creates work of exquisite beauty where credit is shared between the mutual participation of artist and medium,  and we fall in love with watercolor.” ~ Leyah Jensen Marshall

Embrace the astonishing beauty of watercolor and take your watercolor skills to the next level. Leyah shares her knowledge of various watercolor techniques, tools, and surfaces. Starting with the ancient Japanese concept of “Wabi Sabi,” students will explore the natural world as a dance with the unknown; the delightful surprise of color spilling freely across paper. Building on this exploration of watercolor, Leyah will demonstrate how to control this unruly media with masking options and mistake fixing methods, as well as how to tackle realistic perspective and foreshortening. You will also explore the range of top materials, like working on a specially-coated board that allows for endless correction, and learn classic master tricks for dazzling color glazes and energetic texture. Come and learn a myriad of skills to approach your favorite subjects, making watercolor fun and even easy.

LEYAH JENSEN MARSHALL  holds a BFA Honors degree from the Rhode Island School of Design. Studies in fine art have taken her worldwide, from acclaimed institutions like the Danish Design School and Pacific Northwest College of Art to Artist Residencies in India, Haiti, and Nepal. She is the recipient of distinguished awards ranging from a National Gold Medal in Art & Design (VICA) to New York Book Show 1st place winners and #1 bestselling pop-ups (New York Times). Locally she is a recipient of the Chase Plein-Air Award, and enjoys sharing her broad fluency in art mediums through teaching while working as a fine artist and children's book creator in Nantucket.
